Boy Scout Sexual Abuse

Child sexual abuse is an especially heinous crime, made even worse when a child is abused by a trusted member of their community. Covering up this abuse will not be tolerated. We will do everything in our power to bring these perpetrators to justice, and help the abuse survivors move on with their lives.

Since the 1920s, Boy Scouts of America (BSA) has documented thousands of instances of pedophiles infiltrating its programs in its “Perversion Files.” BSA has gone to great lengths to cover-up the existence of its Perversion Files system — even purging an unknown number of these files prior to 1990 — but the truth is now coming to light. Courageous abuse victims and their attorneys, including our members, have forced BSA to disclose thousands of files still in existence, documenting the staggering extent of Boy Scout abuse nationwide.

  • BSA’s “Perversion Files” revealed 1,247 cases of abuse from 1965 to 1985.
  • From 1947 to 2004, BSA accumulated 3,200 confidential files regarding abuse cases.
  • From 1970 to 1991, there were more than 125 cases in which men allegedly continued to molest Scouts after BSA had already been presented with allegations of their abuse.
  • There were at least 50 cases when BSA expelled suspected abusers who then reentered the program and were accused of molesting again.

Exposing the Perversion Files and suspected pedophiles has helped to arm parents and their children with essential information to protect themselves. As one member of Lawyers Helping Survivors of Child Sexual Abuse, Pat Noaker, said, “The reality is horrific in and of itself, but the abomination is magnified by the fact that the Boy Scouts of America organization knew the abuse was taking place and chose not to warn parents and their children. Worse, they covered up and concealed the abuse. They sacrificed children for their image.”
